Project Overview

Summary:

A wide range of organisations work in Slough. As well as the council departments, mainstream agencies such as the Police and Primary Care Trust operate, along with a host of independent, voluntary and community groups. The aim of this project is to help organisations working in Slough to share information about their work, both with one another and with the wider community. The project should also allow residents to access information about facilities and services available in their local area. The project makes use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Internet to map out and communicate neighbourhood information.

How to browse the data:

Typically, text is used to provide a description of an area or tables are used to condense information. Although useful, this type of audit does not allow us to communicate the spatial dimension of issues. It is often important to capture the cumulative effect of initiatives or problems for particular areas. Mapping these to show their distribution can enable a better strategic approach to tackling issues within neighbourhoods.

Proposed Outcomes for the project:
  • Facilitates co-operation between community, local authority and service providers.
  • To supply local information to the community about their neighbourhood.
  • Helps with the evaluation of Nai Roshni.
  • Provide a pilot project, which could be expanded borough wide.
